Everest Base Camp trek via Chola pass
Cho- La (5368 meters) is a challenging adventurous trek Pass in the Everest region. Gokyo or Kalapathar via Cho- La is a high mountain pass. Cho La through to Gokyo valley is a gradual ascent. It is a bit more climbing (as in using your hands as well, and not just your feet, as in the rest of the trekking). We come across the patches of birch and rhododendron forest and if we are lucky we can see the subtle musk deer. We then climb to the Gokyo- Ri crossing the Gokyo lake. The magnificent view of Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyo and Makalu is seen from the top Gokyo ri. Our trail heads to the Cho-La. We reach Dzongla after the pass. Stunning view of Mt. Ama Dablam and Taweche can be seen. Our trail ascends to Zhongla and then to Gorakh Shep. Gorakh Shep is the main junction for the Everest Base Camp via KalaPattar trek. From KalaPattar close view of Mt. Everest is seen while clear view of Mt. Pumari, Nuptse Lhotse can be observed. Then the trial falls down passing lobuche, Pangboche, Tengboche, Namche and finally to Lukla.
It will be wise to climb KalaPattar or go to Everest Base Camp first rather than following the Gokyo valley. Cho- La through to Gokyo is strenuous plus the gradual variation in altitude may lead to altitude sickness. Once we cross the Everest Base Camp or Kalapattar we will be acclimated to go over the pass (Cho-La).
